|
- Stop your
car - Leaving the scene without stopping may subject you to
criminal prosecution.
- Leave your
car as close to the scene as possible, but do not block traffic.
- Give aid to
the injured, if you are able. Administer first aid, if you are
qualified and call an ambulance.
- Turn on your
hazard lights, or use road flares to preserve the scene.
- If possible,
exchange all information , including insurance, with the other
driver or drivers.
- Call the
police who will make a report of the accident. What you say can
be used against you in a court of law, so consider your statements
carefully.
- Seek
medical attention as soon as possible if you are injured.
- If anyone
involved in the accident is injured or there is at least $500 worth
of damages you must file an accident report with the DMV on
Form SR-71.
- Notify
your insurance company as soon as possible.
- Call your
attorney if you expect to claim damages or if you believe a claim of
damages will be made against you.
